Scoping the maternal and newborn advocacy landscape

14th December 2010

During a visit to Abuja, Nigeria, Ann Pettifor met up with Mrs Hayija Amina Az Zubair – Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the MDGs. She was delighted to find that funds freed up as a result of Nigeria’s 2005 debt relief negotiations, are used to fund pro-poor projects, and in particular Nigeria’s new Midwives Services Scheme.

Advocacy International’s Maz Kessler and Ann Pettifor have been in both Ghana and Nigeria this past month, scoping the maternal and newborn advocacy landscape. We were there as part of a consortium, led by Options, undertaking the mission for the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
